About Us
In the past few years I have explored different sports in my school. I’ve
played soccer. I have played basketball since 3rd grade, and I am
still playing even tried out for track, but this summer I discovered what I
think is me to a tee. I have a friend that races go-karts and has been doing it
for a couple of years now and his father offered me a chance to drive one of
their karts. With an absolutely, positively from my dad and a hesitated yes from
my mom of course I got to run my first race this summer to see if I liked it.
Guess what? I liked it! My friend’s father was so happy that I enjoyed myself
that he personalized the kart just for me. My very own colors, my own number,
which is 26m by the way, and my name on the side of the kart. It looked so cool
when I saw it for the first time. I was a little nervous, but once my dad helped
me in the seat I was very comfortable. It was like I was meant to do this.
I can say that this summer I enjoyed myself. My family is there at the track
with me every Saturday night cheering me on. When my girlfriends found out what
I had been doing they were like you are so cool Makenzie, you go girl. We want
to come see you, and then they started coming with us too. Its great looking out
from underneath my helmet and seeing them all there. This season I raced a total
of 7 races. At Naugles speedway in Findlay Township. I have accumulated 5
trophies for my mother to display. 2, 5th place finishes, 1, 4th
place finish, and 2, 3rd place finishes. Out of 21 drivers in the rookie class I
came in 7th in points for the season. Which is pretty good for
someone who has never driven before.
The whole family helps me out with this. My dad is my crew chief he does all
of the work on the kart from setup to cleaning tires between races. Mom helps
keep me fed and keeps lap times for me. My older sister helps dad with cleaning
the kart between races, and wants to give racing a try also. My little sister
cheers me on and tells me she can drive faster. We are planning on racing at a
few other local race tracks around the greater Pittsburgh area for the 2008
season
